HSG (Hysterosalpingography)

HSG (Hysterosalpingography)

A Key Test for Women Planning Pregnancy

Trying to conceive and not succeeding? HSG might provide the answers.

Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is a specialized X-ray procedure used to evaluate a woman’s uterus and fallopian tubes. It plays a crucial role in checking if the fallopian tubes are open and if the uterus has a healthy shape, helping doctors understand fertility challenges better.

At Atharv Diagnostic Center, we perform HSG in a safe, clean, and comfortable environment with high-precision digital imaging and experienced radiologists.

Why is HSG Done?

HSG is commonly recommended for women who are:

  • Trying to conceive without success

  • Undergoing fertility treatments

  • Suspected of having blocked fallopian tubes

  • Experiencing recurrent miscarriages

  • Suspected of having uterine abnormalities like fibroids, adhesions, or polyps

How is HSG Performed?
  • The test is done between Day 7 to Day 10 of your menstrual cycle (after your period ends and before ovulation)

  • A contrast dye is gently introduced into the uterus through the cervix

  • A series of X-ray images are taken to see how the dye moves through the uterus and fallopian tubes

If the tubes are open, the dye flows freely. If they’re blocked, the dye stops or pools.

What to Expect During the Test?
  • The procedure takes about 15–20 minutes

  • It may cause mild cramping or discomfort, similar to menstrual pain

  • You can usually return to normal activities the same day

  • Our caring staff will guide you through each step to keep you relaxed

Is HSG Safe?

Yes, it is generally safe with a low risk of complications. At Atharv, we follow strict hygiene and safety protocols to minimize any infection or discomfort.
