NT Scan

A Gentle Step Toward a Healthy Pregnancy.

The NT Scan, or Nuchal Translucency Scan, is a special ultrasound done between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. It measures the clear (translucent) space at the back of your baby’s neck, which can help assess the risk of chromosomal conditions like Down syndrome (Trisomy 21), Trisomy 18, and other genetic concerns.

At Atharv Diagnostic Center, we offer safe, precise, and compassionate prenatal scans under the care of experienced radiologists Dr. Makarand Dombe and Dr. Deepali Dombe.

Why is an NT Scan Important?

  • Early Detection: Helps identify the risk of certain chromosomal abnormalities

  • Reassurance: Gives parents peace of mind by checking the baby’s early development

  • Non-invasive: A completely safe procedure with no harm to mother or baby

  • Guides Further Testing: Results can guide if more advanced tests (like NIPT or amniocentesis) are needed

Often, the NT scan is combined with a blood test to calculate a more accurate first-trimester screening risk.

What Happens During the NT Scan?

  • Done abdominally, like a regular ultrasound

  • A gel is applied to the belly, and a probe is moved gently over the skin

  • The scan looks at:

    • Baby’s neck fold (NT thickness)

    • Baby’s nasal bone

    • Heartbeat, limbs, and movements

    • Basic organ development

  • The scan usually takes 15–20 minutes

  • You may be asked to drink water before the scan for better imaging
